Hi Chris,
Just downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 beta from the citylink mirror (very fast)
and used the cd to install on an older (7? year old) AMD processor with
256M Ram and all is well, if a little sluggish.
Just did the 138 Meg update of 249 programs with no fuss.
(BTW, I had trouble getting 7.10 or 7.04 to install from live or
alternative cd.)
As yet, I haven't gone any further, but a glance over the program menus
reveals a few changes over Gutsy Gibbon.
Perhaps wait until 8.04 is finally released and update using the update
manager may be the best path for existing installs.
I am constantly delighted with how Ubuntu has developed. The machine I
have just set up is ready to go to an IT newbie (aged) as an
internet/email/basic home pc.
Ubuntu has meant an older PC has a new lease of life at no cost with an
OS suitable for a newbie. Also rock solid and automatic. Oh and safe too.
Awesome.
Cheers,
Clint.
