[hblug] auto.conf

downloaded driver from www.sourceforge.net  named 'garmin_gps-0.31a'  ... got as far as untarring but cannot compile, getting an error message no 'auto.conf ' found etc . have two threads on ubuntuforums but no help so far. i wonder if this code is written for another distro that obviously has the mentioned file. so how how do i get 'auto.conf' ??otherwise i bring my machine next wednesday and maybe someone will have pearls of wisd0m...thanks in advance.
