Not sure if it'll help the bigger picture, but you can create a "created and
blank" /etc/resolv.conf (DNS lookup configuration) file by running:
touch /etc/resolv.conf
I assume that the PPP daemon would then populate that file with the correct
DNS settings once you've successfully dialed up.
