I just went to nz.pool.ntp.org and it is a web page, not an NTP server.
Try "ntp.usenet.net.nz" which is the real server as listed on that page.
I usually use "ntp.massey.ac.nz" as it is at Palmerston North for
physical proximity. But pinging both gives:
mu-relay1.massey.ac.nz
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 147.158/164.763/187.263/13.938 ms
renew.usenet.net.nz
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 135.049/140.205/148.051/3.995 ms
* Where rtt = round trip time. Could be that masseys firewall slows
down the round trip where the usenet box is direct connected.
