/etc/hosts should contain the old hostname. Just edit the file to
reflect the new hostname. Don't touch the localhost name!
Bad karma will be incurred on all your issue. 

Incidentally this file is also usefull for banning any website:

0.0.0.0	ads.doubleclick.com

is all you need as an example. It speeds up any website which fetches
ads from this website.
