There seems to be very few techs out there who understand alarms and
phones and broadband.

We are forever being called out when someone adds broadband and some
computer idiot thinks he knows what to do. Some places we have even been
called out 3 or 4 times when the computer wizkid decides to change their
system.

In simple terms when you add broadband, then the phone wiring to include
the alarm must be modified in one of two ways.
1. Wire in a filter to the alarm and leave all other outlets on
broadband. Any of these can have plug in filters added to convert them
to a phone (fax) as required.
2. Wire the house so that one (or as required) outlets are broadband and
the rest are permanently phone type outlets.

Both of these systems do degrade the security of a monitored security
alarm system.
Security can be improved again by adding in a connection via your
network to the monitoring company.

Fraser
