Hi guys
and thanks for the suggestions.  Michael's response reminded me that I 
had previously gone into kde > peripherals > printer, and deleted print 
jobs there.  I did try the command line but got "no such command" or 
something - sorry didn't make a note of it.  The kde thing worked anyway.
No - it's an Epson C61, and pclinuxos (sort of mandriva based).
