[hblug] DVD/ CD writers and comparison for Linux OS (Mint in this case)

Hi all

I'm considering buying a DVD writer of TM as they are very competitave
in price to shops now. However which one? Is it a case that most DVD's
will detect fine in Ubuntu (Mint) in this case and LInux has plenty of
software to drive it...?

What are your thoughts?
