The Kubuntu 64 seems to run most of the apps that I need.
So far I've installed (or are installed by default )
K3B, gFTP, QtParted, Firefox, Thunderbird, gThumb, OO2.0, samba, all 
seem to work ok... so thats a good sign.
It even found and configured the dual GB-LAN and Firewire sockets at 
install - - nice!
