Hi Grant,
The server cd is brilliant - if you're wanting to install a server. In
otherwords, it's designed to run in as little resources as possible.
This means no gui as this uses memory and CPU cycles.
Like Daniel has said, you can install ubuntu-desktop (with `sudo
aptitude install ubuntu-desktop`) or alternatively, if you're more
comfortable with kde (it's a matter of preference and if you're new to
linux - which it sounds that you are - gnome is probably as good a
start as any) you can try installing kubuntu with `sudo aptitude
install kubuntu-desktop`.
The other options are:
edubuntu - an education focused desktop
gobuntu - using only Free software
mybuntu - for making a PVR (personal video recorder). Basically a
myth-tv standalone distro
xubuntu - using xfce instead of gnome for lower powered computers
It's also possible to install more than 1 desktop. I often install
both a kubuntu and ubuntu desktop with very few issues.
Regards,
Nevyn.
