[AuckLUG] Ubuntu 7.10 server

Hi I have bought a 7.10 server OS on a disc and have loaded it onto a clean hard drive and have only come up with an ms/dos type os. Should this be gui and if so what do I do next as it seems to be hung in ms/dos anmd I must admit I'm pretty ignorant with this os. Looking forward to the next meeting which I intend to attend and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
