[AuckLUG] Bittorrent Bandwidth Shaping/QOS

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out a way of controlling the QOS on my laptop to lower
the priority of torrent traffic. This is just on my laptop, not over a whole
network, and working with a cooperative user (me!) who will not try to work
around my bandwidth shaping attempts.

I did the usual google search and found heaps of tutorials dealing with
iptables and the like. However, the ones I found seem to be dealing with how
to do this kind of thing on a network; while that should in theory be easily
transferable to a single machine - in practice I found myself overwhelmed by
all the information out there!

Anyone has any ideas, tips or pointer where to look? Basically all I want to
do is lower the priority of bittorrent (I know what port is being used) over
all kinds of other activity (web, ssh, voip, etc....) on a single machine...

Oh, I'm using Kubuntu Gutsy btw...

Cheers,
/Fuad
