Yes. It is one of the many variants of Ubuntu.

Yes. I did open /var/log as you suggested. And thank you, 'cos I've
learnt something new!

Had a look in each of these files. Couldn't spot anything to do with
printers, CUPS or HP Color LaserJet 5M. Did a Search but nothing
resulted.
I'll work my way through all the var/log/messages*.gz, var/log/sys.log*.gz
files etc. and see if I can find anything, and report back

It did indeed, because I have now learnt that I don't have to use the
command line to find the contents of a file!
