Kath has a point though.
Workshop based meetings rather than lecture based meetings. I.e. it's
all nice and well hearing about GIS or whatever, but being able to see
a specific and practical use for something and the configuration for
using such a thing would be very cool.
Even if the attendees can't really participate, they're seeing how
something is done, and then able to brainstorm and question
accomplishing another need by simply understanding 1 use.
Possible ideas: The "application server(s)" idea that I mentioned in
another post once something has been built or something simpler like
making a custom template in Lyx (rather than relying on the ones that
come with the application putting a bit more control back in the
user's hands) or custom displays in X for kids and hard of seeing or
even alternative control interfaces. Perhaps even beginners type admin
things like the basics of the email protocol and implementing in
Linux.
