That could be a DNS problem.  What do you have in /etc/resolv.conf?  If that
is just pointing at your firewall/router/gateway, what are your DNS settings
there?

I've just started using OpenDNS (ref: http://www.opendns.com), so my results
are a little different.  I can't ping Google, but I can surf anywhere :)  I
haven't been using OpenDNS for long enough to form an opinion, though.
