Can you
- ping the gateway box - 192.168.1.1
- check that the gateway actually has an ADSL connection (assume that
the gw is an ADSL router - check its status page)
- ping an external box - eg one of Quicksilver's name servers
-202.89.128.16,
- check that you can resolve host names - cat /etc/resolv.conf, then try
host some.host.name
