I went to the installfest and installed Ubuntu 7.04 on one computer and 
fixed the installation on another.

The computers accessed the university intranet successfully. I tried 
making the appropriate changes to access my ISP (Quicksilver) but to no 
avail. I can't even ping the router. I don't have any problems accessing 
the Internet using Windows. The changes which I made were as follows:

Domain name: quicksilver.net.nz
DNS servers: as supplied by Quicksilver
Search domain: quicksilver.net.nz
IP address: 192.168.1.18
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway address: 192.168.1.1
I also tried using DHCP.

What have I done wrong or failed to do?
