[AuckLUG] POWER OUTAGES OVER NIGHT

Hi Alan,

I'm not entirely sure where the connection is between slingshot and a
computer rebooting.

For your Windows problem, chances are it's a case of automatic updates
- they tend to want to reboot your computer and force you to do it.
It's lost me quite a bit of work due to leaving something open and
having gotten up to make a cup of coffee or the like and not being
quick enough to tell it not to reboot the computer.

However, Kmail crashing might have something to do with the problem I
was/am having. Every night around 2 (usually at around 10 to 2) my
internet connection seems to disconnect. I'm not sure if this is due
to slingshot or whether due to my once monitored security alarm which
doesn't have a filter doing nasty things to the phone line.

In otherwords, more information is needed. For the first problem, see
if you can find out what time updates are coming down for Windoze and
for the second, download a large file overnight and have something
monitoring network traffic so that you can see when the connection
appears to disconnect. (IPCop includes traffic graphs which is great
for this sort of thing).

(oh and this is the first and last time I dispense with Windoze advice
on this mailing list)
