[AuckLUG] POWER OUTAGES OVER NIGHT

Not strictly a Linux problem but I wonder if anyone else has been having
similar problems.
Every morning, although I have Kmail (Under OpenSues 10.2) running it seems to
have locked up and won't download my emails. I have to close Kmail, wait a
few minutes and then open it again, log on and all my mail downloads.
Figured it was a bug in Kmail or OpenSuse and have not got around to having a
look on the net to see if it is listed. Not very Linux savvy but trying to
improve
However I now find that my wife who has a dual boot machine running Windoze
and Kubuntu has a similar problem. She prefers to run Windoze but the machine
is set to boot into Kubuntu on startup - she selects Windoze manually. Every
morning lately she has been complaining that the machine has the Kubuntu
logon screen showing and she has to restart her machine to load Windoze.
We are both with Slingshot as our ISP
This seems to indicate that both machines are shutting down over night for
some reason - course a may be totally wrong there, However if this is the
case why is my machine still running Kmail as the open app - but seems to be
logged off while hers appears to have completely rebooted.
No point in me ringing Slingshot yet as, as soon as they hear "Linux" they
tune out!
Any suggestions on how I can pinpoint the problem so that I can try to sort
it.
Oh...and I am quite new to Linux so I'd appreciate it if it could be in
language a relatively new Windoze convert can undertand.
