My router is a Asus AAM6000EV. I've was pretty lucky: I bought it
without realising that it runs Busybox Linux (I just run `sh` from
telnet) and uses iptables for routing, which has worked brilliantly.

I was wondering if, with an iptables rule, I might be able to map the
external IP like Kent mentioned. Is it something inherent in the way
NAT is done that prevents it, or is it that most routers aren't
configurable enough?
