Ok so that confirms ffmpeg should know wot to do with an mp3 file... Does this 
happen on every mp3 you try to convert? Can you post the output of the 
command: ls -l /home/gaspode/Music/KitaroEssential/AsTheWindBlows.mp3

Just as a side note you shouldn't really change the subject heading of a 
mailing list email because some of us thread our messages using it and it 
makes it well hard to keep track of. Also... top posting is 4 gays
