[AuckLUG] GPL 3 - The Real Deal

As I know what Ravi is aiming it, I'm trying to make it a bit less fuzzy. It's
the Perst Lite database:
http://www.mcobject.com/perst/
And here is what it says about the licensing:
"""
McObject Open Source Databases are available under a dual license . Under the
GPL, you may download and evaluate the source code free of charge and you may
use McObject Open Source Databases free of charge in a non-commercial
application (one that you do not charge money for or that is not used
internally by your business, and for which the source code is also freely
available). If you wish to use a McObject Open Source Database in a
commercial application, you can use McObject Open Source Databases under a
commercial license.
"""
Question is now as follows: If the database would be used from a commercial
product, but not be embedded within the application, or altered in any way,
would it be possible to use the (free of charge) GPL version for this
project. Just as it is possible to use a commercial application with other
GPL software (e. g. with MySQL, or other commercial code linking against the
GPLed glibc).
Of course then the library (read Perst in this case) would clearly NOT be
allowed to be part of the product, but it could be installed as a service
along with the commercial application to satisfy the dependency.
Hope this is less fuzzy, and in a more straight way to an answer that Ravi
would like to know (me as well ...)
Guy
