[AuckLUG] Running multiple operating systems simultaneously

Oops! I made a mistake with the email I sent earlier today; please 
ignore it. I got confused between VMware Player and VMware Workstation.

I have a computer with a dual core AMD processor and 4 Gb RAM currently 
running Windows XP Professional. That will be my main operating system 
for some time to come but I want to migrate gradually, but not totally, 
to linux (probably Ubuntu).

When looking for suitable virtualisation software, I found Microsoft 
Virtual PC 2007 (which is free) and VMware Workstation 6.

Does anyone have any experience with Microsoft Virtual PC? Microsoft 
claims that there are no problems running linux on a virtual machine 
created using Virtual PC but I have read that there are some problems 
with some of the linux distros, particularly some of the less common 
ones, but I don't know which ones.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
