[AuckLUG] Running multiple operating systems simultaneously

I have a computer with a dual core processor and 4 Gb RAM currently 
running Windows XP Professional. That will be my main operating system 
for some time to come but I want to migrate gradually, but not totally, 
to linux (probably Ubuntu).

When looking for suitable virtualisation software, I found VMware Player 
and Microsoft Virtual PC. Does anyone have any recommendations with 
regard to virtualisation software.
