Alan,

As long as you have the COA (Certificate of Authenticity) on the laptop 
(usually underneath its the label with the cd key on it) you can use any 
XP OEM CD to put windows back on at a later date if you don't have a CD 
download one or copy one.

So feel free to blow away the Windows partition if you want (i'm also 
pretty sure that the acer laptop's come with a recovery CD anyway).
