First off, my apologies for the short notice:

John Houlker, Sector Manager - ICT of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
has contacted me to let me know that Chris DiBona will be giving a
presentation on Thursday morning from 9.00am to noon in ENG 3.404 in the
Engineering Faculty, at the University of Auckland.
(map -> http://www.ltmu.auckland.ac.nz/find_a_pool_room/403_404.htm)

Chris will apprise participants of new developments at Google and hopes
to generate discussion. Chris Shiflett and Matt Biddulph may also attend.

Topics that may/will be covered:
     How Google uses computers
Software development (particularly Open Source based)
     Linux
Working with very large data sets (and "Map Reduce")
     Some Geospatial projects at Google

Chris DiBona is the Open Source Programs Manager for Mountain View, Ca
based Google, Inc. His job includes running the Summer of Code and
releasing open source software on Google's Code website, which can be
found at http://code.google.com.
Before joining Google, Mr. DiBona was an editor/author for the popular
online website Slashdot.org and he is an internationally known advocate
of open source software and related methodologies. He co-edited the
award winning essay compilations "Open Sources" and "Open Sources 2.0"
and writes for a great number of publications. He was briefly the Linux
guy on TechTV and speaks on a variety of open source issues internationally.

Hope to see you there,

Marcel
