Rick - I have had to install Ubuntu on a machine that had a windows IMAGE on it (so I couldnt re-install Windows from disks). 1) The solution for me was to move the Windows partition using Partition Magic. And then I installed Ubuntu. I think you need a separate partition for the boot manager (Grub in my case)! 2) I also suspect as an alternative that you could also use a linux disk manager to create and move the entire contents of a partition to another place so that you can create space for Windoz, install Windoz, and then fix menu.lst to see the changes. 3) Alternatively, install a new hard drive, install Windows on that, determine which disk is bootable in the BIOS, and then re-set up Grub.
