[AuckLUG] VMware problem

That doesn't sound like a restore-from-backup level of problem.

The auto-run VMware refers to takes place when a CD is inserted.
Double-clicking the CD drive icon in My Computer will still cause the
CD's auto-run apps to load.

If you have CDs that you know will auto-run, it could be a drive
problem. Otherwise, it might be that the CDs don't have an auto-run ini
file. I wouldn't think VMware is stopping you from running the auto-run
files manually. If all else fails though, uninstall VMware while keeping
your virtual machines. At the very least that would restore auto-run on
CD insertion and you could keep your VMs and try a re-install.

Anyway, on my VMware install my checkbox has *three* states, with no
explanation of what the extra one does. This sort of thing should tell
you that VMware takes a lot of patience. It's worth the learning curve
though.
