[AuckLUG] VMware problem

This is not really a linux problem but, rather, a problem which arose
from installation of Ubuntu on a virtual machine at the installfest.

VMware Server was installed on a computer running Windows XP
Professional. It was then used to create a virtual machine on which
Ubuntu was then installed.

While creating the virtual machine, I was advised to disable autorun on
the DVD drive. Today, I tried installing Windows software from a CD and
couldn't find a reliable method of doing so. On one, and only one, of
several software installation CDs I tried, autorun worked when I double
clicked on the DVD drive. I tried to find a method of enabling autorun
temporarily and found what should have provided the means of doing so by
running "VMware Server console". I clicked on "Configure host" and then
"Devices" and removed the tick from "Disable autorun on host". However,
if I closed that window and opened it again the tick reappeared. I was
logged onto Windows as a administrator so I should have been able to
make the above-mentioned change.

I hope I can find a solution to this problem quickly because, otherwise,
I will have to recover from backup and lose the good work which was done
at the installfest.
