you can use plain ssh to transfer your files; no need for ftp of http.
windows has terrible ssh support so you need to download an ssh browser (as
you would even if you used ftp) ... putty and tools are a popular choice for
interacting with ssh servers (scp for copying, putty to login in to
interactive shell but you have to do all this through the windows command
line ... very painful! I have used winscp (graphical like explorer) in the
past with very good results - I am able to connect to any machine that
supports ssh access like macosx, unix and friends.
