Yes -- as a rule they are less good than you would expect, have a very
limited range of software and very little third party support ... and
still suck less than a WinCE device.

If you really want a PDA I wouldn't recommend a Linux based system,
though, unless you are confident that the core software does what you
want or you really fancy developing PDA software in a tiny market.

Yes -- check the Linux on Laptops pages and Google first, but generally
these work just fine.

Very little, bit I know that there is almost no pen input support in
stock Linux distributions.  Expect a great deal of hard work to use this
as a tablet.
