Hi Justin,

The way to debug this stage of the process is to edit master.cf. Find
the line for the component you're having trouble with (in this case,
the trivial-rewrite and cleanup lines) and add '-v' to the last column
(marked as 'command + args' on Debian). The component will then put
debugging information in your usual mail log.

Adding more v's often produces more interesting output.

(You've probably already fixed the problem. But even if you haven't,
this answer might be good for archival purposes.)
