Thanks Ravi,
It was exactly the bootloader which was causing the problem. For some
reason, it was on /dev/hda1/ instead of /mnt/hda1/ just changed it to
the correct path and it boots up properly now :)
Thanks also to Martin and Nevyn for your input also, didn't really
know where my /root/ was (even though I really should have) until I
used the live CDs.
