Well it now looks like my Philips DVD player has developed a fault and needs servicing. Given the cost of past servicing for Tvs and VCRs it may not be worth it and will probably be more cost effective getting a cheap DVD player from Dick Smith or similar. That said I wonder if I should consider starting the build of a Linux based PVR instead. I guess I could start with just a plain vanilla recorder saving to HDD and maybe a DVD burner incorporated into it. That way I'd get to record and play DVDs just as I can (used to) do now. I have a brand new 160gb SATA HDD and have to change my current DVD burner in my PC for a dual layer burner so I'll also have a DVD Burner- which just leaves mobo, RAM,PSU and Tunercard Couple of questions: Is there a good NZ site for newbie HTPC/MythTV/PVR builders. In reality how easy is it to get a good working system up and running - I'm no Linux genius but I am willing to learn For a starter what is a recommended PC case with which to start. I guess it does not need a FDD slot but probably needs the ability to take a IRC unit. Alan
