I have been a linux over woosh user for two years now. While I don't use their phone service, I know many in the CBD who do without any drama. I regularly voip to the states and have never had a latency problem even while simultaneously working on the desktop, but that could be from fortuitous timing! Download speeds are quite variable depending on your cell and time of day. While not up the speed of my jetstream at work, neither is the price. Woosh is not actively hostile to linux and will flash your account details to the modem for free if you have drama, something I believe they do anyway for the phone customers. No computer required to make phone calls, but you will need a phone... With voip and a cellphone, who needs a land-line anyway? ;-) Two thumbs up.
