My Core 2 Duo Build cost $1200 I would consider that not to expensive considering how much more powerful it is than the next computer. Its About as powerful as a 6GHz Pentium 4. The Chip rocks :). But it probably is over kill. Considering you can pick up an entire Pentium 4 2.4 GHz for less than $450 with Windows XP Professional licence (Not that we need it) with a 19 inch monitor. Just it may not have a DVD player but DVD players are only $60 max. In some places. Depends what your after and where you look I guess. >From: "Peter Hamilton" <peter at hamiltonz.net> >Reply-To: Auckland Linux User Group mailing list <aucklug at linux.net.nz> >To: "Auckland Linux User Group mailing list" <aucklug at linux.net.nz> >Subject: RE: [AuckLUG] Buying New Computer >Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2006 23:38:59 -0400 (EDT) > >I've not run a Linux distro on cutting edge hardware for just the reasons >you've mentioned below with the Intel chipset (I run it on a PIII 1.0 GHz >and a P4m 1.8 GHz).
