I've not run a Linux distro on cutting edge hardware for just the reasons you've mentioned below with the Intel chipset (I run it on a PIII 1.0 GHz and a P4m 1.8 GHz). Well, that and I don't have anything cutting edge I'm not running Windows on *ducks*.... Obviously it depends on what you're wanting to do with the machine, but if it's pretty bulk standard stuff, perhaps you're better off with some older/lower spec hardware as 1) You know Linux *should* support that (Try saying that while refering to wireless with WPA under Ubuntu :-(...) and 2) Should be a bit cheaper.
