lca2006 was held in Dunedin. Close enough? =)

NZ on its own doesn't appear to have the critical mass required to set up
a dedicated Linux Conference, though we (being the NZ Linux Users Group I
guess) have had involvement in the
Uniforum Conference (a since wound-up Computer Society style organisation)
which essentially spun off the NZ Network Operators Group (NZNOG)
conferences.

A 'Linux' Stream @ NZNOG isn't an impossibility, if people want to step up
and organise it - may possibly be easier to become a component of a
large routine which already has some established organisational backbone,
than setting up a new one. (A new standalone Linux or Open-Source focussed
event would be bloody cool - but theres a lot of work in it...)

Mark. (Past NZNOG / Uniforum Conference organizer among other things..)
