Hi All,
Need a bit of advise here on paths ,environmental variables etc
,I think.
Ive been fiddling around with C/C++ and coming to grips with it in a
small way. However ,never satisfied I just had to do GUI stuff as well so
I installed GTK+ and ptk-config.
This installing stuff is always shaky ground for me on account of IHGAC
syndrome (I Haven't Got A Clue).
Now GTK+ came as a .rpm which went in via pirut or pup ,I'm not sure but
anyway it ended up in my ~/home directory in a subfolder
~/home/gaspode/GTK+. So far so good. but ,and I think here I should have
installed pkt-config first ;pkt came as a tar.gz which I ended up
opening inside the GTK+ folder.
Now when I run or try to compile .c files pkt-config tells me
[gaspode at localhost GTK+]$ gcc base.c -o base `pkg-config --cflags --libs
gtk+-2.0`
Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
It does that if I run it from inside pkg-config-0.18.1 as well.
I have exported both folders to my path as per instructions from one of
many, many tutorial ,all of which seem to contradict each other and all
of which make my head hurt.I need my hand held while I "add the
directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable"
I know this is probably real basic but I'm trying to learn multiple
skills and I seem to pick most things up through <cout osmosis ,trouble
is I keep getting into chicken & egg
probs. Cant do this till I know that ; can't do that till I know this. :-)
Remember , we're talking nOObie here...
