Hi All After seeing people extol the virtues of Ubuntu on this list, I thought I would give it a try. I have a DVD for Ubuntu Version 6.0 from Linux Magazine August 2006. Today I installed a 'Server Install'. The install went reasonably ok. then the problems began. Firstly I had to reboot and go into rescue mode to assign a password to root, so I could work on the machine. Then I wanted to install some services (nptd, dhcpd, named, etc). They did not appear to be installed and I do not remember any screen during install that asked which services that I wanted. So I decided to look on the dvd. While the machine recognised the dvd, it would not display anything using 'ls' except for "." and "..". It appears that there is little that I can do with this machine. Am I missing something? I am very familiar with RedHat/Fedora and have done many installs and maintenance on those machines. Can someone point me to where I can get some help, or do I go back to Fedora? Regards Ken
