been reading the list and what not for a while now. 1st posting.. i have recently aquiried an old PC and am trying to install ubuntu 6.06 server onto it, so we can use it as a print server / anything else that i can fit on a 2.6GB HDD, it seems to install all ok. but when i remove the cd and it reboots itself it gets to saving the default or something (im a newbie) then the boot line. but all it does is reboot my machine. don't know why, the install seemed to go fine, although it thinks my 10baseT NIC is a firewire device for some reason. screen output before the reboot is as follows Booting 'Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.15-26-server root (hd0,0) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-26-server root=/dev/hda1 ro quiet splash [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1c00, size=0x16c98f] initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-26-server [Linux-initrd @ 0x794e000, 0x6a1478 bytes] savedefault boot then it proceeds to reboot. post, load the above and repeat. i will be trying to install with the alternative install CD to see if that works. if that does not ill try the desktop cd install. i think after that ill be out of blank cd's.. have tried to install fedora on this as well. but ran outta HDD space. so no luck there.
