[AuckLUG] How to type Non English charactors in Mandriva?

Hi guys, Perhaps you can assist me with typing the letter o with a slash 
in it.
In the Open Graphics Project they have a new VCD viewer being developed 
called Bolge where the letter o is really o&slash (o/)

In semi hidden draft newsletter it refers to the software and I cant 
work out how to type it's spelling:

search for "lge" and you will quickly find it.

I have tried ctrl + shift F8. any ideas how on earth I can type that 'o'?

ps: running Mandriva 2006. Open office/Kate etc. Language English. 
Location NZ.
pps any suggestions about typing charactors for ^2 or Ohm would be 
helpful too. I am suspecting that it must be something really obvious.. 
Google doesnt help - it just gets lost in the noise.
