Sure have, and no go.

In the end I found out about the dl() command in php and tried that, My 
imap.so version is too old. The next newest version is too new. This'll 
teach me to depart from the goodness of yum. The obvious solution is to 
reinstall php with fresh rpms, all of the same version without leaving 
anything out this time.
