Am I teaching my grandmother to suck eggs?  Can you not set Firefox as 
default in Edit -- Preferences -- General from the Firefox menubar?  I 
think in older versions (or is it newer) it was Options -- General.  
That works fo me though admittedly I don't normally use Kmail or 
Konqueror except as the default screen and file manager.
