Yep - most of the LUGs go fairly dormant after end of November and things wake up again after the New Year, typically mid-Jan-ish. In terms of suitable hardware, part of it may be influenced by where in Auckland you're based. Theres a number of likely suppliers, esp as you're building up a system based on components instead of buying an entire system. OEM Computers in Manukau are pretty good (or were) if you're in the South. PB Technologies are in Penrose (further north, about halfway to the Central City) and always treated me pretty well.
