Auckland LUG Meeting - Monday 1 May 2006
Submitted by scott on 26 Apr 2006 - 6:59pm Auckland
Who:Stuart Mealor (http://www.learning.ac.nz/)
What:
Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.

Moodle has a large and diverse user community with over 100,000 registered users on Moodle.org, speaking over 70 languages in over 150 countries. Worldwide there are over one hundred Moodle-based e-learning sites with over 5,000 users, and many thousands of smaller sites.

Stuart Mealor is Managing Director of www.learning.ac.nz and global Moodle Certification Manager.

Stuart will discuss the implementation of Moodle, specifically in New Zealand, on the LAMP platform (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), although Moodle is also available for Windows, and Mac OS.  He will also explore the options and approaches that can be used by individuals, small business, training providers, and large organisations in New Zealand.

A huge supporter of Open Source, Stuart has promised that AuckLUG members who attend the meeting in May will be given free access to Moodle hosting services to 'try things out' for themselves!
