Sorry for the misunderstanding, I blast a remote signal out from the serial port on my pc to the sky box. I use a hacked version of lirc for that since I also use lirc to receive my hauppauge ir signals. I talked to sky about the rs232 connection at the back of their box but they said it was another video signal output or something of that manner. So the only way you can actually change the channels on the box is by sending remote signals or physically pressing the keys. That's why I want to look at DVB cards since sending an ir signal is not 100% reliable. At the moment it is not really worth it over here since sky send most of their 'free to air' channels encrypted, bit of a monopoly for digital tv I think. If you are not familiar with lirc (www.lirc.org) , I just trained it to learn my sky remote signals and then to send thoses signals when I want to change channels.
