Obviously, you try this on cd-rw first.

Ah, see above. I bet the Linux CD block device driver is unable to cope
with 1k block size, therefore no data, therefore no filesystem to
mount.

See recent thread "defrag ext2 filesystem" on the Canterbury list (you
do want to put some thought into this).

To the other person who asked, the CD is just another block device (like
your hard disk), therefore you can have any filesystem you like. Edit
your /etc/fstab to fs type "auto", finished.

Oh yeah, never try explain to a Microsoftie that a CD can have any
filesystem let alone why you might want to do this (.. blank stare...
"joliet is so good, it did everything I ever wanted to do perfectly").
Ehhm, never mind.
