Yes, but then I'd have to go via someone else, there is the bandwidth monitoring issues, where the firewall/ups goes, 2 LANs required if local and DMZ required for servers, network outage if those people move out etc. I'm already looking at sharing a LAN with neighbours, so if net connected too I'd need control of the bill (and would want physical control of the incoming hardware). I have jetstream, so I count myself lucky that I can at least get that. I had thought I could always buy some line modem hardware (high speed serial or DSL) and twist a couple of spare pairs together connecting mine and a neighbour's house in the local street telephone mushroom... but I suspect telecom may not like me (disclaimer: I'm not really considering this, so no need to check, Ms Gattung...) > I am still waiting for TelstraClear or somebody else to wake > up and realize > that Whangaparaoa rd would make a great place to lay cable... their rollout map is here - looks like you may be waiting a while for telstraclear... http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/companyinfo/network_map_central.cfm And no Rob, I'm not stringing UTP across my neighbours' backyards. It is a nice neighbourhood, and they still like me at the moment. ;) cheers H. ------------------------------------------------------------------- To remove yourself from this list, email nzlug-request@linux.net.nz with "unsubscribe" in the body of the message.
